On a blustery day back in May we teamed up with a bunch of ace creatives for a styled shoot on the edge of Derbyshire, one that encompassed a love of colour, festivals, and outdoor weddings. Honestly, I can think of no better combination.
Some photographers are deeply involved in planning & styling a shoot. This photographer, not so much. All the props must go to the absolutely wonderful Nadia Di Tullio, who together with Peaktipis pulled together an amazing bunch of people (I like how that comment indirectly references myself). It was a case of turning up with my camera, being completely blown away by what I saw and getting busy capturing the beauty of it all.
I love shooting for story. So I went into the shoot with this in mind, capturing both the real – like breaking the fourth wall, behind the scenes stuff – as well as the imagined. I like the surreal tension this has created as I look through the photos, between the dreamy imagined story of the first look, outdoor humanist ceremony and hanging out in the festival surrounds – and the ‘ordinariness’ of getting ready for a special time, the buzz, busy-ness and anticipation. That feeling is part of every wedding day I’m invited into. It is a surreal day, with splashes of the ordinary interwoven in between.
Big shout out to models, Millie & Danny from Model Students who were incredible to work with. My greatest fear going into this was not being able to capture any convincing moments between the ‘couple’ – something which would never happen at a real wedding – but these guys brought the laughter, smiles and looks.
EVERYONE who was part of this shoot deserves mention for their hard work & awesome talent. So check out the lovely peeps on this list if you’re getting busy planning your day.
